RaDonda Vaught worked as a nurse in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s intensive care unit.

In March, a jury found her guilty of criminally negligent murder and mistreatment of an incapacitated adult in the death of a patient.

Vaught was sentenced on Friday, May 13.

Vaught, 36, was sentenced to supervised three years probation by Davidson County Criminal Court Judge, Jennifer Smith.

Smith said, “My hope that changes in the practices and protocols in the medical setting that have arisen since this event may at least be some positive aspect that has arisen.

And going forward, I hope it prevents this type of situation from happening again,”.

Vaught was overcome with emotion, and her supporters cheered outside the courthouse.
