Jeffrey Scott Buckley was an American singer, composer, and guitarist who was born Scott Moorhead on November 17, 1966. Buckley rose to prominence in the early 1990s by performing cover songs at East Village and Manhattan venues such as Sin-é, eventually shifting his focus to his own material after working as a studio guitarist in Los Angeles for a decade.

From 1990 to 1991, Buckley shared a room with actress Brooke Smith. Buckley met artist Rebecca Moore during a tribute concert to his father, Tim Buckley, in April 1991, and the two dated until 1993.

This affair inspired his album Grace and led to his eventual relocation to New York. Buckley was in a relationship with Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins from 1994 until 1995.

They collaborated on a song called “All Flowers in Time Bend Towards the Sun,” which was never released. In 1994, Buckley began dating musician Joan Wasser. He allegedly proposed to her shortly before his death.

What is so special about Jeff Buckley?

He composed singles that were both gloriously perky and extremely profound; he hissed and spat as much as he sang like an angel; and he explored deeply personal and deeply spiritual issues in the same breath.

Jeff Buckley isn’t just one thing, and that’s what makes him so intriguing as an artist.
