Sir Roderick David Stewart is a British rock and pop singer and songwriter. Stewart was born and raised in London and is of Scottish and English ancestry. Stewart is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold over 250 million records worldwide. In the United Kingdom, he has ten number-one albums and 31 top-ten singles, six of which reached number one.
Stewart was born during WWII at home, eight years after his nearest sibling. The family was neither affluent nor poor; Stewart was spoiled as the youngest, and has called his childhood “fantastically happy”. Stewart had a mediocre performance at Highgate Primary School and failed the eleven plus exam.
Stewart then attended Muswell Hill’s William Grimshaw Secondary Modern School (later Fortismere School). Stewart’s father retired from the building trade and purchased a newsagent’s shop on the Archway Road, where the family lived. Stewart’s main hobby was railway modeling.
