Robert James Smith, an English musician, was born on April 21, 1959. He is the sole surviving member of the rock group the Cure, which he co-founded in 1978. He also serves as the band’s lead singer, guitarist, and principal songwriter.

In addition, he played lead guitar for Siouxsie and the Banshees from 1982 to 1984 and was a member of the Glove in 1983, a short-lived band.

Smith started taking lessons in classical guitar at the age of nine from a John Williams student, who he described as “a really brilliant player.”

But, he added, “Although I gained a lot of knowledge, I eventually started to lose my sense of humor. I wish I had persisted.”
