The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame was led by Manti Te’o to the BCS National Championship Game in 2012.

Heisman finalist, Butkus Award winner, and one of college football’s most decorated defensive players in history. He was set for a glittering pro career until a catfishing episode damaged his reputation.

Te’o revealed to the public in 2012 that his fiancée and his grandmother both passed away on September 11th. He then gave his season as a tribute to his “dead lover,” Stanford student Lennay Kekua, who had reportedly passed away in a car accident.
