The death of director-animator Leonid Shvartsman has been announced by Soyuzmultfilm’s press department.
He passed away at the age of 102.
What Is Leonid Shvartsman Ethnicity?
He is Russian by nationality.
Shvartsman was born in Minsk, BSSR, and grew up in an old-town Yiddish-speaking devout household.
His father worked as an accountant at a brisk business, but he died when Shvartsman was just 13 years old.
His maternal grandparents relocated to the United States in 1924, leaving the family in debt and forcing him to care for his siblings. After finishing primary school owing to his involvement in communist youth activities, he attended a gymnasium, which is now a public school.
He searched even more peripheral areas of the art world while homeless, without parents or siblings, and denied an art career. In 1945, he applied to the VGIK film institute, and after he graduated in 1951, he was hired by Soyuzmultfilm, where he worked for the rest of his career.
At the studio, Shvartsman is now credited with 70 films.
