A notable period of activity for the New York City-based American rock group Television was the 1970s. Tom Verlaine (vocals, guitar), Richard Lloyd (guitar), Billy Ficca (drums), and Fred Smith made up the majority of the band’s lineup (bass).

The band is credited with having a significant impact on the rise of punk and alternative music. They were a mainstay of CBGB and the New York rock scene in the 1970s.

What happened to the band Television?

Adventure, Television’s second album, was created and published in 1978. Despite its poor sales, Adventure was highly appreciated by critics because it was softer and more contemplative than their debut album.

The band disbanded in July 1978 as a result of the members’ diverse artistic perspectives and Richard Lloyd’s drug usage. Verlaine and Lloyd both pursued solo careers, and Ficca joined The Waitresses as their drummer.

Television reunited in 1992, put out a self-titled third album, and occasionally played live after that. They’ve done several gigs across the world since being invited back on stage together for 2001 All Tomorrow’s Parties festival at Camber Sands, England, and they still play shows occasionally today.
