David Lingmerth shattered his left kneecap two years ago while competing, but he didn’t notice it at the time.
He tried to shake it off because he was a hockey player growing up and still is at heart. He continued to play golf.
He took a deep breath and swallowed it.
What happened to David Lingmerth?
Since herniating two discs in his neck in 2017, Lingmerth, a tiny and solidly constructed 5 feet 7, has been struggling with problems.
He also battled tendinitis in his right arm and, more recently, a wrist injury in his left.
Lingmerth, who is pleasant, accessible, and probably the most level-headed golfer you’ll ever meet, shot an even-par 71 in the first round of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship on Thursday at the Ohio State Scarlet Course.
He rallied with two late birdies, but he knows that on the Korn Ferry Tour, even pars aren’t really useful.
Indeed, rain overnight softened the notoriously difficult Scarlet Course, making it reachable and subsequently gotten by a number of players hoping to get the PGA Tour in the second of three Korn Ferry Tour Finals tournaments.
