Black Box’s 1989 single Ride On Time featured vocals from US vocalist Loleatta Holloway, who passed away at the age of 64.
Her manager Ron Richardson announced the performer’s death to the BBC as a result of heart failure.
Hit and Run is Gilles Peterson’s favorite Holloway song, the co-founder of the Acid Jazz record label and DJ for BBC Radio 1.
“That needs to get played again because that takes the soul, the emotion, the disco – everything about Loleatta Holloway is in that one song,” he said.
Four children and nine grandkids survive Holloway.
At Rev. Jesse Jackson’s church in Chicago, a private ceremony for the family and a public memorial were held.
