A segment of the public is criticizing Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his response to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government reshuffle, which took place on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.
Otchere-Darko made a specific statement on the nomination of Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam as the next finance minister, replacing Ken Ofori-Atta, in a tweet that was released on February 15, 2024.
He applauded Dr. Amin Adam’s appointment by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, saying Adam possessed the necessary skills to oversee the finance ministry.
“Congratulations to Amin Adam. Ghana’s president couldn’t have found a more prepared, competent, humble and politically-conscious, personable replacement to take control of the country’s finances than you. Reactions from the public suggest strong approval,” his post read.
However, several Ghanaians have taken issue with Gabby’s response, citing a post he made on January 4, 2011, following the reorganization of his ministry by the late former president, Professor John Evans Atta Mills.
Gabby stated in a post on what was formerly known as Twitter (now X) that the purpose of the reorganization was to divert Ghanaians’ attention from the rising cost of life.
“Deafening musical chairs: clever PR by govt to use reshuffle to drown public agitation and discussions on 30% fuel increases. Would it work?” he wrote.
