What does the Miss World pageant entail?

Miss World is one of the oldest and longest-running international beauty pageants, created in 1951 by Londoner Eric Morley. The competition has evolved over the years to embrace the Beauty With a Purpose ethos, recognizing contestants with significant charity projects in their countries.

Currently, 120 contestants are participating in various events and exhibitions between February and March 2024, leading up to the grand finale on March 9. Only one woman will be crowned Miss World 2024 at the dazzling ceremony.

Eric Morley gained fame in the pageant world as “Mr. World” before his passing in 2000, leaving his wife Julia Morley to continue co-chairing the pageant. Julia is also the chairwoman and CEO of the Miss World Organization.

Miss World is part of the Big Four beauty pageants, along with Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss Earth, known for being the most prestigious and widely covered beauty pageants globally.

The pageants have specific requirements for participation, with Miss World contestants being between 17 and 26 years old, citizens of the country they represent, unmarried, childless, and having a clean record. In contrast, Miss Universe contestants can be slightly older and have different marital and pregnancy statuses.

The Miss World pageant features several segments, including Sports, Top Model, Talent, Beauty With A Purpose, and more, culminating in the final event where the winner and continental queens are announced.

Viewers can catch the 71st Miss World 2024 pageant live on Sony LIV in over 140 countries and territories on March 9. Stay tuned to see who will be crowned the next Miss World!
