Veteran receiver Randall Cobb accepted a pay cut to stay with the Green Bay Packers. Coupled with linebacker De’Vondre Campbell’s re-signing not yet official, the Packers momentarily got to the salary cap by Wednesday’s deadline.
Brought back at the request of quarterback Aaron Rodgers at the start of training camp last summer, Cobb caught 28 passes for 375 yards and five touchdowns in 12 games. Cobb and Rodgers are close friends, and Cobb is driven by his quest to win a Super Bowl. Those factors no doubt contributed to his decision to return for the 2022 season.
What did Packers give up for Cobb?
The Green Bay Packers have officially brought back Randall Cobb, with the team announcing a trade with the Houston Texans for its longtime receiver Wednesday night.
Green Bay said they sent Houston an undisclosed draft pick in return. A source told ESPN that the Packers only had to give up a sixth-round pick and got the Texans to eat $3 million of Cobb’s salary; the cap hit on the Packers will be slightly under $3 million.
