The Canadian actor  Matthew Perry stepped into the spotlight with his role younger brother of Valerie Bertinelli’s title character on the 1990 show Sydney, but it wasn’t until he landed the role of Chandler Bing on Friends in 1994 that he shot to fame.

What did Matthew Perry suffer?

Perry went to Las Vegas to shoot “When Fools Rush In” after Season 2 of “Friends”: He was administered Vicodin there after a jet ski accident, which marked the beginning of his drug addiction

The doctor prescribed the drug for his pain, but as it’s a highly addictive substance, Perry’s use escalated to taking 55 pills. Along with the Vicodin addiction, he suffered from alcoholism.

He recalled his appearance on the show, “When I’m carrying weight, it’s alcohol; when I’m skinny, it’s pills. When I have a goatee, it’s lots of pills.”

In 2018, Perry’s colon exploded due to an opioid overdose and he was in a coma for two weeks. “The doctors told my family that I had a two percent chance to live,” he told People. “I was put on a thing called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for your heart and your lungs.
