Recall that, the American sports journalist and soccer analyst, Grant Wahl, collapsed suddenly in his press box seat at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Qatar, while covering the quarterfinal match between Argentina and the Netherlands on December 10, 2022, and was rushed to the Hamad General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
What did Grant Wahl die of? Aortic aneurysm explained
His widow has revealed that his death was caused by an aneurysm. Dr. Celine Gounder – Wahl’s widow, has revealed that the cause of death was found after an autopsy in the United States. “He had an autopsy done here in New York by the New York City medical examiner’s office, and it showed that he had an aortic aneurysm that ruptured,” She said.
Wahl made headlines at the World Cup when he was harassed by officials for wearing a rainbow shirt to the U.S.-Wales match. According to his wife, she would love people to remember his advocacy. “I want people to remember him as this kind, generous person who was dedicated to social justice,” she said.
After Wahl’s death, his brother Eric Wahl said that Wahl had received death threats and that he believed he was killed. However, the family announced they no longer suspected foul play after Wahl’s brother originally suspected so in the immediate aftermath of his sudden death.
Wahl, a sportswriter, and contributor to several outlets, including Fox Sports, CBS Sports, and Sports Illustrated, was given a tribute at the World Cup before the England-France match Saturday.
