When Orbison’s friend and songwriter Joe Melson knocked on his car window in Texas one day in 1958, the two decided to collaborate on some tunes. Orbison recorded seven songs at RCA Nashville throughout three recording sessions in 1958 and 1959. By RCA, only two singles were deemed suitable for release.
Orbison’s career sputtered after the mid-1960s due to a slew of disasters in his personal life. In the 1980s, he saw a rise in popularity as a result of the success of numerous of his songs’ covers.
He co-founded the rock supergroup Traveling Wilburys in 1988 alongside George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne.
