Born on October 9, 1969, Polly Jean Harvey MBE is an English singer, songwriter, and musician. She is most well-known for her work as a guitarist and vocalist, but she is also good at playing many other instruments.
In 1988, Harvey became a vocalist, guitarist, and saxophonist in the local band Automatic Dlamini. The band’s frontman, John Parish, became her long-term collaborator. Following the formation of the PJ Harvey trio in 1991, she began her professional career as PJ Harvey. The trio released studio albums titled Dry (1992) and Rid of Me (1993) prior to their breakup, and Harvey continued to perform solo. Since 1995, she has worked on nine more studio albums with a variety of musicians, including Parish, her former bandmate Rob Ellis, Mick Harvey, and Eric Drew Feldman. She has also worked extensively with Flood, the record producer.
On October 9, 1969, in Bridport, Dorset, Ray and Eva Harvey welcomed their second child, Polly Jean Harvey. She spent her childhood on the farm her family owned in Corscombe, and her parents ran a quarry on Ham Hill, the site of an enormous Iron Age hillfort.
