West Brom coach Carlos Corberan was left frustrated after Brandon Thomas-Asante received a red card in their recent 1-0 loss to Sunderland. The English-born midfielder was shown two quick yellow cards in the first half, forcing the team to play with 10 men for the rest of the match.

Corberan expressed the importance of managing the situation effectively and highlighted the impact it had on the game. The loss was further compounded by a goal from French-born Ghanaian midfielder Pierre Ekwah in first-half stoppage time.

The West Brom coach pointed out that the team lacked experience playing with a numerical disadvantage and referenced a previous incident where Sunderland’s Dan Ballard injured their striker Josh Maja without facing any repercussions.

Corberan stated, “The second yellow card had a massive impact. You can have all the desire in the world, but when you already have a yellow card, you need to remain calm. To concede a goal from a set-piece after losing a player is particularly painful.”

He also voiced his frustration over the lack of consequences for Ballard’s actions in the previous match, saying, “It was unfair that in the first game, they injured Maja without any repercussions. The player who scored that day injured one of our players, and the referee didn’t even give him a yellow card. It was unbelievable.”

Corberan stressed the importance of players controlling themselves on the pitch, especially when they already have a yellow card. He viewed the situation as a learning experience for both Thomas-Asante and the team as a whole.
