Superintendent Abdul Latif Adamu, the Ghana Prisons Service’s public relations officer, has declared that his team is making every effort to apprehend the Chinese prisoner who broke free from Nsawam Prison.
The Chinese national was incarcerated at Nsawam Prison for a year after committing theft and other serious offenses.
On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the incident happened after the person allegedly pretended to be ill and was taken to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for medical care.
According to reports, he was first taken into custody at Tema and held there until being moved to the Nsawam Maximum Security Prison.
On February 12, 2024, Mr. Adamu confirmed the report in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News, adding that his office had gathered some leads to help rearrest the inmate.
He said that an investigation is being conducted into the incident. Many of the leads we have received indicate that what we are doing is working.
