The call for the diversification of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and the Volta River Authority (VRA) by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been welcomed by the Executive Director of the Institute for Energy Security (IES), Nana Amoasi VII.

During the commissioning of a 430-kilometre natural gas pipeline by Genser Energy in Kumasi, the Asantehene emphasized the need to involve the private sector in the management of these institutions for improved efficiency. He highlighted that privatizing these entities will attract more investors, create employment, and generate more revenue for the country.

Nana Amoasi VII, speaking on the Ghana Tonight show on TV3, expressed agreement with the Asantehene’s proposition, stating that the current challenges in the energy sector require investments and a shift towards private sector involvement. He acknowledged the inefficiencies in managing the country’s assets and utilities and emphasized the need for competent private entities to take over the operations of ECG.

The proposed diversification and privatization of these key institutions aim to enhance their performance, attract investments, and improve service delivery in the energy sector. Nana Amoasi VII reiterated the importance of involving the private sector in the management of these entities to ensure sustainable and efficient operations.
