Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the member of parliament for North Tongu, says his side of the House is prepared to put Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia to the test on his publicly proclaimed opposition to taxes.
He claims that in the face of the nation’s suffering, it is contradictory that the leader of the NPP and the Economic Management Team (EMT), who had a significant role in the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), would shirk accountability.
Vice President Dr. Bawumia made a promise to do away with many government-imposed levies, including the emissions tax, the electronic transactions levy, the 15% value-added tax on power, and others.
Mr. Ablakwa reaffirmed on JoyNews that the Minority will be pursuing a private member’s bill to remove certain annoying levies, and that they anticipate the Vice President’s backing in doing so.
This is an opportunity for the Vice President who approved all of these levies while meeting in secret with the IMF. This is the private member’s bill that we will present. Let’s put his sincerity to the test right now.
On Wednesday, he stated on the AM Show, “We are not going to wait until after the polls.”
He went on to say that Dr. Bawumia does not need to be elected president in order to lessen Ghanaians’ suffering.
He believes that the Vice President is unfit to govern the nation for the ensuing four years.
