Akufo-Addo, the president, has restated the government’s commitment to helping the victims of the Akosombo dam spill.
During the 67th Koforidua Independence Day celebration, which had as its subject “Our Democracy, Our Pride,” Akufo-Addo said that the government had released GH¢80 million of the GH¢220 million that had been set aside to support the ongoing reconstruction work in the communities affected by the spill.
He underlined, “The government will do everything in its power to bring the lives and livelihoods of everyone impacted back to normal.”
In addition, he said in remarks regarding the 13th African Games, which will begin in Accra on Friday, March 8, that “I am not promising a Ghanaian clean sweep of track and field events.” While it would take a miracle, I can assure everyone who visits that they will have a joyful and adventurous month.
In order to maintain the prosperity of the nation’s economy, he also exhorted Ghanaians to uphold the idea of the rule of law.
Economic growth is impossible to achieve without upholding the law. Some of us mistakenly believe that the freedom declared upon our independence means we can disregard the laws and norms that ought to govern our daily lives.
“The discipline required for the rule of law goes hand in hand with aspirations for prosperity,” he said.
