Wee Willie Harris was a great man, the reporter who confirmed his death said a charming hubby. But for him, music was everything.
Wee Willie Harris, real name Charles William Harris, started off as a musician by performing at the 2i’s club in Soho.
As the house pianist, Harris shared the stage with Tommy Steele, Adam Faith, and others. Because of his little size, Harris was given the moniker Wee Willie Harris.
His debut record, “Rockin’ at the 2 i’s,” was published the same year he had an appearance on the BBC program Six-Five Special. Their popularity came from his upbeat live performances and vibrantly colored dyed hair. He was mentioned in the 1979 song “Reasons to be Cheerful, Part 3” by Ian Dury.
