Regarding Stonebwoy’s payment to the National Sports Authority (NSA) for obtaining the Accra Sports Stadium for the Bhim Concert in December, there is a discrepancy.
The musician paid more than GHS 70,000 for the venue, according to Stonebwoy’s manager, despite the GHS 70,000 figure declared by NSA chief Professor Peter Twumasi at the Public Accounts Committee and recorded in the NSA’s accounts.
The Director General of the National Security Agency stated in the Committee hearing that he had received GHS 70,000, which he considered adequate for facility maintenance.
Stonebwoy’s manager, however, has disputed this amount, claiming that the artist actually received more money than was stated.
According to sources, the NSA normally charges GHS 150,000 or more to host major musical events at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Sports Journalist Saddick Adams reports that Stonebwoy’s manager has indicated a desire to appear before the Committee to give further information on this subject. This adds another level of nuance to the ongoing discussion about the NSA’s use of athletic facilities for events other than sporting ones.
The disclosure from Stonebwoy’s side highlights the financial component of these agreements and casts doubt on the veracity and openness of the NSA’s published data.
This most recent development adds a new angle to the ongoing debate about the NSA’s decision to rent out the sporting facility for non-sporting events, which may lead to more examination of the agency’s operations as criticism of the agency’s actions rages.
