Ghana Futsal team head coach, Philip Boakye, reflects on lessons learned from 2024 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations

Following their disappointing performance at the 2024 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, the Ghana Futsal national team, also known as the Black Stars, have been knocked out of the tournament after losing all three of their Group A matches.

The team suffered an 11-3 defeat to Angola in their final game, adding to earlier losses of 5-2 to Zambia and 8-3 to Morocco. Despite the disappointing results, head coach Philip Boakye remains optimistic and sees the tournament as a valuable learning experience for his team.

Speaking after the game, Boakye acknowledged Angola’s strong performance and admitted that fatigue played a role in their defeat. He stated, “I think Angora have a nice team. They played a good game, and I think the better side won. I think it’s fatigue. And I think after we saw that, we knew that we are changing, but it’s the fatigue.”

Boakye also highlighted that the team has learned a lot from participating in the tournament and will use this experience to improve in the future. He said, “This is our learning point, and we have studied a lot of things from some countries who came for the tournament. Surely, we are going home to do our homework.”

While the Black Stars may have been disappointed with their early exit from the tournament, they are determined to bounce back stronger and continue working towards achieving success in future competitions.
