Ing. Abdulai Mahama, the Senior Project Manager, has shed light on the delays affecting the completion of the Ofankor-Nsawam road construction project. This project, which commenced in September 2022 with an expected completion time of 24 months, is currently only about 60% complete.
During an appearance on Adom TV’s program, “The Big Agenda” hosted by Abena Opokua Ahwenee, Mr. Mahama highlighted that the reasons for the delay are largely beyond their control. One notable obstacle they faced was the presence of a shrine along the construction route. After consulting with locals, it was discovered that the gods associated with the shrine had “travelled,” causing a delay of three and a half months. In order to proceed with the work, the construction team had to make offerings, including two cattle and monetary compensation.
Additionally, other issues such as conflicts between settlers and landlords, the necessity to reposition ECG and GRIDCO high-tension wires, and the need to address drainage systems were cited as contributing factors to the delay.
Mr. Mahama emphasized that the road project has been designed to last 20 years, while all drainage systems are intended to remain functional for 50 years. These considerations contribute to the longevity and sustainability of the infrastructure being constructed.
As the project continues to progress, efforts are being made to overcome the challenges and ensure the timely and successful completion of the Ofankor-Nsawam road. The commitment to quality and durability remains a top priority for the project management team.
