The Minister for Tourism, Creative Arts and Culture, Catherine Afeku has said the NPP government is not like the NDC that does not believe in the potency of data but in create, loot and share.

She made this known while speaking to Bolgatanga-based A1 Radio on the decision by government to start feasibility studies on setting up a Creative Arts fund and a functional Creative Arts Secretariat.

“Before you build a house you have to have a plan. Before you put up a construction you have to have a plan.We have to have a plan, where is the plan? We are not NDC, we can’t just say Ayariga take two million and give it to the media and it will disappear. We have to have a feasibility”.

She indicated that there is the need for feasibility studies in order for the Ministry to be furnished with data on the number of people in the industry so that the Ministry can defend any amount of money it seeks from the Ministry of Finance.

“Are we giving this money for aged revision, is it for artistes, is it for actors, who is it for, how many stakeholders are in the sector, where is the data? If you don’t do these things you will just create money for people to chop and we are not that kind of party,” she told Bolgatanga-based A1 Radio’s Kofi Asante.

Catherine Afeku indicated that the Creative Arts industry in Ghana lacks database and that has limited and underestimated the scope of the industry but believes that the Creative Arts Council under the leadership of Okraku Mantey will help build a database that will bring all members of the Creative Arts industry under one umbrella.
