We are witnessing stable power supply – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured Ghanaians of a stable power supply in the country.

He mentioned that the recent power outages have been resolved after maintenance works on the transformers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

During the Workers’ Day celebration in Accra, President Akufo-Addo stated that the era of erratic power supply, popularly known as Dumsor, under the previous administration will not return. He emphasized that the issues with transformer maintenance have been addressed, leading to stable power supply across the nation with no reports of load shedding.
However, Dr Yaw-Baah, the Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), expressed concerns about the reoccurrence of power outages and called on the government to take immediate action. He criticized the effectiveness of the IMF bailout program in addressing economic challenges faced by workers, particularly regarding the stability of the Cedi.

Dr Yaw-Baah emphasized the need to reduce imports and promote the consumption of locally produced goods to support the local currency. He urged Ghanaians to consume what is produced in Ghana to stabilize the Cedi.

The theme for this year’s Workers’ Day celebration in Ghana is “Elections 2024: The Role of Workers and Social Partners in Securing Peaceful Elections for National Development.”

Ahead of the upcoming general elections, Dr Yaw-Baah called on the Electoral Commission, the Police, and the judiciary to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections for the development of the nation.
