We are outdooring the next vice president of Ghana – ABA Fuseini on formal announcement of Mahama’s running mate

Alhassan Bashir Alhassan Fuseini, the Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, has expressed his confidence in the abilities of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to become the next Vice President of Ghana.

He commended her selection as the running mate for former President John Mahama, stating that she brings a lot to the ticket. In an interview with TV3’s Eric Mawuena Egbeta at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) auditorium, he described her as an accomplished professional whose selection showcases the inclusivity of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Former President John Mahama recently announced Prof. Jane Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the upcoming 2024 elections. This is the second time that she will be partnering with the former president, having first done so in the 2020 presidential elections. ABA Fuseini emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating that they are not just outdooring her as a running mate but as the next Vice President of Ghana. He expressed confidence that the NDC will be voted back into power to rid the country of the current poor-performing government.

The NDC, in a statement signed by the General Secretary Fifi Kwetey, highlighted Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s impressive credentials and experience. They emphasized her role as a trailblazer for women in leadership positions and reiterated the party’s commitment to inclusivity and the empowerment of women in leadership roles.

With her nomination, the NDC is presenting a formidable team with John Mahama and Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang at the forefront. The party believes that they are poised to introduce a bold and progressive vision for the future of Ghana. This nomination marks the beginning of what is being referred to as the “JJ ticket” – John and Jane leading the charge for the NDC.

Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, born on November 22, 1951, is a Ghanaian academic and politician with an impressive career history. She served as the Minister for Education from February 2013 to January 2017 and is a full professor of literature. She made history as the first female Vice-Chancellor of a state university in Ghana when she assumed the role at the University of Cape Coast. Currently, she serves as the Chancellor of the Women’s University in Africa.

Throughout her career, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang has been involved in various academic and leadership roles, both locally and internationally. She has received numerous awards and recognition for her contributions to education and international leadership.

Her selection as the running mate for John Mahama in both the 2020 and 2024 elections has been celebrated as a positive step towards promoting gender balance and equality in Ghanaian politics.
