A water shortage at Oti Secondary Technical School has forced hundreds of boarding students to go door-to-door in the surrounding neighborhoods in quest of water.
The Ghana News Agency reported that during class hours, a sizable number of students carrying containers were seen wandering around looking for water.
“Since school resumed, we have been facing a water crisis, which is negatively impacting our academic activities,” some pupils (names withheld) told the GNA, expressing their anger.
One student bemoaned, “By the time we get to our classrooms, we are already tired, and we cannot even concentrate, so we sleep in class.”
They made a plea for help to end the water issue to the government, the Krachi East Municipal Assembly, and private citizens.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Bernard Aborkugya Mensah, has reassured students of his commitment to finding a quick solution to the severe water deficit.
He declared that his engineers were devoting all of their time to solving that problem in a long-term manner.
The MCE gave the public and students assurances about restocking supplies.
GNA claims that the school has long struggled with a water deficit and that the intolerable state of affairs is negatively affecting effective teaching and learning as a result of pupils spending contact hours looking for water.
