The Paramount Chief of Wasipe Traditional Area in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region, Wasipewura Mumuni Anyame Kabasaya II, has distanced his traditional area from the recent arrest of Muetala Abudu, a 35-year-old native of Wasipe, in the Karaga District of the Northern Region.

In a press release signed by his Secretary, Jantonwura Peter Awusi Yakubu, the Paramount Chief expressed concern over the incident involving Abudu and emphasized that the Wasipe community had no involvement in the matter. He described the incident as both worrying and unfortunate.

“We at Wasipe state unequivocally clear that we don’t have any link or hand whatsoever in what has happened far away in Yoo-Dakpema involving a son of our soil, and we, therefore, disassociate ourselves from the unfortunate incident,” the statement read.

The Paramount Chief also called on the security forces to investigate how Abudu was identified, recruited, and by whom to partake in the conflict. He urged a thorough investigation to uncover the truth and ensure justice prevails.

Abudu, who is currently in police custody in Tamale, was apprehended by security personnel in possession of ammunition in Yoo-Dakpema, Karaga, amid a chieftaincy crisis that has resulted in two fatalities. During interrogation, Abudu claimed to be from Tidrope, prompting further inquiries from the Wasipe community to confirm his origins.

The Wasipe Traditional Area expressed concerns about Abudu’s involvement in the conflict and questioned why he was contacted to participate in the dispute in a different traditional area. They urged the security forces in Karaga to delve deeper into the case to uncover Abudu’s paymasters and any previous involvements he may have had in similar incidents.

The statement from the Paramount Chief underscored the community’s commitment to seeking justice and ensuring that those responsible for instigating the conflict are held accountable. The Wasipe Traditional Area is determined to distance itself from the violent incident and uphold peace within its boundaries.
