U.S. Soccer reported that prominent American soccer writer Grant Wahl passed away on Friday while covering the World Cup in Qatar. Prior to joining Substack, Wahl covered the growth of the sport for Sports Illustrated for many years.

On Friday in Lusail, Wahl attended the Argentina vs. Netherlands quarterfinal game. At the beginning of extra time, he passed out in his seat.
