On Wednesday, Richard “Dick” Flavin, a well-known announcer at Fenway Park, passed away at the age of 86.

American poet and author Flavin, who was from Quincy, was referred to as the Boston Red Sox’s Poet Laureate. For daytime games, he served as the team’s public address announcer.

The Boston Red Sox tweeted as follows: “Dick Flavin was a fixture on Boston TV, a familiar face and voice at Fenway, and our own beloved poet laureate. Our hearts are with the Flavin family. His words and warmth will always be part of the organization.”

In 2013, Flavin started working as the public address announcer at Fenway Park and continues to create poems about the Red Sox.

Flavin has maintained a blog on his website for the past few years, with his most recent entry titled “Who’s to Blame for the Red Sox Woes?” only six days before he passed away.
