WAFU Zone B championship: The pitch is hampering our style of play – Black Starlets coach Laryea Kingston

Black Starlets head coach, Laryea Kingston, has raised concerns about the condition of the University of Ghana Stadium, stating that it affected his team’s performance in their recent match against Benin.

The Ghana U-17 team secured a crucial victory in their second game, topping Group A and booking their spot in the semifinals of the WAFU B U-17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Despite their success, Kingston pointed out that his team struggled to score goals against Benin, managing only two compared to the five they scored against Cote d’Ivoire in their previous match.

“The pitch made it difficult for us to play our style of football. The ball was moving slowly, which affected our rhythm,” Kingston said in a post-match interview. “We wanted to approach the game calmly, but the pitch conditions made it challenging.”

Despite the challenges, Kingston was pleased with his team’s overall performance and believes they dominated the game against Benin more than they did against Cote d’Ivoire. The Black Starlets are now focused on maintaining their unbeaten record as they look ahead to the semifinals of the tournament.

The Ghana U-17 team will be working hard to adapt to the pitch conditions and ensure they continue their winning streak in the upcoming matches. The coaching staff and players are determined to overcome any obstacles they face and push towards their goal of qualifying for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
