The WAFU U-17 tournament got off to an electrifying start for Ghana as they cruised to a 5-1 win over Ivory Coast on Wednesday afternoon at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The host nation, led by captain Benjamin Tsivanyo, put on a stellar performance in front of their home fans. Although Ivory Coast tried to gain some control early on, it was Ghana who drew first blood with a goal by Joseph Narbi in the 27th minute. Narbi then added another goal just before halftime, giving Ghana a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.

The second half saw Ghana continue their dominance, with Godfred Sarpong and Harve Gbafa extending the lead to 4-0 within the first ten minutes. Despite Ivory Coast managing to pull one back, Ghana kept pushing forward and Mark Kagawa Mensah sealed the victory with a fifth goal in stoppage time.

With this commanding win under their belt, Ghana will be looking to carry the momentum into their upcoming match against Benin in six days.

Fans who missed the action can catch the highlights of Ghana’s impressive performance in the video provided.
