Dick Clark, the eternally youthful television host and producer who ushered in the New Year for the public at Times Square and contributed to the mainstreaming of rock ‘n’ roll on “American Bandstand,” passed away. He was eighty-two.

According to spokesman Paul Shefrin, Clark went to Saint John’s hospital in Santa Monica the day before for an outpatient treatment and suffered a heart attack there on Wednesday morning. This could lead to his demise.
Even after having a stroke in 2004 that left him unable to move or talk, Clark kept on performing.
