The Minister of Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso Boakye, has called on the electorates in the Ejisu constituency of the Ashanti Region to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate in the upcoming by-election scheduled for April 30.
This comes after a former three-term MP of the constituency, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, decided to run as an independent candidate following disputes with the party’s National Executive.
Mr. Aduomi cited concerns over the credibility of the party’s delegates’ album as the reason for his decision to contest independently. However, Minister Francis Asenso Boakye has urged the constituents to focus on electing NPP’s candidate, Kwabena Boateng, stating that an independent candidate or one from another party would have limited influence in securing road projects for the constituency.
During a campaign event, Mr. Boakye questioned how an opposition MP could effectively lobby for development projects without the support of the ruling government. Despite the Minister’s advice, some voters expressed their preference for Mr. Aduomi, highlighting his track record of obtaining road projects during his time in office, even while in opposition.
On April 13, Kwabena Boateng was elected as the NPP parliamentary candidate in the constituency following the passing of Dr. John Kumah. As the by-election approaches, the constituents face a crucial decision on who will represent their interests in Parliament.
It remains to be seen whether the electorates will heed the advice of Minister Francis Asenso Boakye or choose to support Kwabena Owusu Aduomi’s independent candidacy based on their assessment of the candidates’ ability to deliver on the development needs of the Ejisu constituency.
