Haruna Mohammed, the deputy general secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asked ministers and deputy ministers in President Akufo-Addo’s cabinet to resign if they are too tired or incapable of making a meaningful contribution.

Mr. Mohammed emphasized that this action will make it possible for people with new ideas and enthusiasm to enter the government, which will improve the performance of the government and the party’s chances in the December elections.

Mohammed emphasized in his speech on JoyNews’ Newsfile the significance of putting the party’s and the government’s interests ahead of one’s own.

He emphasized that there is still enough of time for the party and the administration to successfully carry out their responsibilities to serve the people of Ghana.

“At this juncture, we are happy that the President has listened to the calls by the New Patriotic Party’s General Secretary to reshuffle his government. However, we are still calling on those who think they are very tired and cannot contribute to the fortunes of the government and the party, they should voluntarily resign so that people that will be able to assist will be appointed,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo has finally changed his government after months of popular pressure.

These adjustments follow the resignations of former ministers of trade Alan Kyerematen and agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, who left their positions to focus on their bids for political office, one month ago.

On Tuesday, February 13, the President formally informed the Speaker of Parliament of the government’s new composition in compliance with the 1992 Constitution.

Twelve or so people have been appointed to ministerial roles, and other others have had their ministries reassigned.
