The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau has slammed Russian President Vladimir Putin for attacking Ukraine in recent weeks.
The world has united against Vladimir Putin after he ordered his military force to take over key cities and communities in Ukraine, causing more than a million citizens to flee the country. Many lives have been lost during the attack.
There have been huge sanctions placed against Putin and Russia, however, it seems the ‘headstrong’ President isn’t ready to give up his arms.
Justin Trudeau, in a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson at Downing St. on Monday, March 7, 2022, described Putin’s attacks as ‘neocolonialism’ and condemned him for refusing to back off.
According to Mr. Trudeau, Putin’s actions are unacceptable, and he will issue more sanctions Russian President’s allies so he doesn’t benefit economically from his atrocities.
He announced that he will issue 10 sanctions against 10 individuals close to the Russian leadership.
“Today Canada is announcing new sanctions on 10 individuals complicit in this unjustified invasion, this includes former and current senior government officials, oligarchs, and supporters of the Russian leadership,” he disclosed.
“The names of these individuals come from a list compiled by jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny,” he added.
Boris Johnson, on the other hand, said the UK has been generous to Ukrainian refugees. The UK has approved 50 visa applications so far and Boris says the country is willing to accept more applications.
The UK has also supported Ukraine with nearly £400 million so far.
