The fashion industry has lost one of its greatest creative thinkers, Virgil Abloh.
His death comes as a shock to many people no one expected it. Virgil Abloh passed away on Sunday, November 28, after battling a deadly cancer called cardiac angiosarcoma for two years.
His family said: “We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Virgil Abloh, a fiercely devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend.”
And LVMH and Louis Vuitton – the companies Virgil Abloh worked for as its artistic director – said they were shocked by the terrible news about the demise of the famous designer.
LVMH and Louis Vuitton together with Virgil’s own company Off White released a statement Sunday saying they ‘are all shocked after this terrible news.’

The statement signed by Bernard Jean Étienne Arnault – the chairman and chief executive of LVMH Moët Hennessy and Louis Vuitton – said Virgil was ‘not only a genius designer, a visionary, he was also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom.’
“LVMH, Louis Vuitton and Off White are devastated to announce the passing of Virgil Abloh, on Sunday, November 28th, of cancer, which he had been battling privately for several years,” the statement said.
It added: “We are all shocked after this terrible news. Virgil was not only a genius designer, a visionary, he was also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom. The LVMH family joins me in this moment of great sorrow, and we are all thinking of his loved ones after the passing of their husband, their father, their brother or their friend?”
When is Virgil Abloh’s funeral and burial?
His family is currently mourning and planning his funeral and burial. Virgil Abloh’s autopsy report hasn’t been released yet so we are guessing his funeral and burial rites will take a few weeks.
Abloh’s family has also said the media should allow them privacy while they mourn the fashion designer.
“We thank you all for your love and support, and we ask for privacy as we grieve and celebrate Virgil’s life,” the statement said.
Where will Virgil Abloh be buried? Ghana or United States?
Even though Virgil Abloh was born to Ghanaian immigrant parents, his real place of birth is Rockford, Illinois. His connection to his ancestral home hasn’t been too tight, therefore, we anticipate his burial place to be either Rockford or Chicago (where he died).
