Mark Sinclair (born July 18, 1967), better known by his stage name Vin Diesel, is an American actor.
In 1997, Diesel secured money to make Strays, an urban drama in which he played a gang leader who attempts to change his ways because of his love for a woman. The film, which was selected for competition at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival, was written, produced, and directed by Diesel.
This resulted in an agreement with MTV to turn the film into a television series, but the plan was never carried out. Director Steven Spielberg cast Diesel in a modest soldier role in his 1998 Oscar-winning war film Saving Private Ryan after spotting him in Multi-Facial. Diesel’s first important Hollywood film role was in this movie.
Diesel appeared in the 2000 drama-thriller Boiler Room as a supporting character alongside Giovanni Ribisi and Ben Affleck. Later that year, in the science fiction film Pitch Black, he received his first significant leading role as the anti-hero, Riddick.
