In the face of alleged funding issues that are causing delays in the project, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, a member and secretary to the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral project, has released an estimate of the sums required to construct the building.
In an interview that aired on Onua FM on March 7, 2024, Kusi Boateng underlined the significance of taking into account the benefits that the finished National Cathedral would offer to the country.
“The National Cathedral will be completed if we can raise between $200 million and $250 million,” he declared. Let’s examine the advantages the Cathedral will have both financially and for Ghana. God has blessed us as a country; let’s unite and give Him thanks.
He continued by saying that, in comparison, the project would be less costly than one of a similar nature in the United States and that Ghana’s structure would also have more enticing amenities.
He emphasized that, in comparison, the project would be less expensive and have better amenities than one of a similar size in the United States.
Kusi Boateng made the following observation: “The Washington Museum required US$600 million to build, but Ghana will have a Bible museum of Africa after the Cathedral is finished, which will surpass the US$600 million American Museum in terms of room, content, and technology.
“The total cost of our Biblical Museum, Biblical Gardens, and Cathedral is approximately $300 million, and it surpasses the $600 million cost of the American Bible Museum.”
Additionally, Kusi Boateng refuted allegations made by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a member of parliament who has expressed doubts regarding the project’s legitimacy and purported corruption.
“Deep analysis of the data reveals that, while $300 million is a lot of money, we’ve done well in comparison to the US$600 million,” he emphasised.
Additionally, Kusi Ablakwa refuted a parliamentarian’s allegations that the project was rife with corruption and illegalities.
