Former President John Dramani Mahama has promised to drop  the fixed-rate system on imports of spareparts.

Speaking at the NDC’s recent campaign trip to Abossey Okai, he said people pay over 3000 dollars of rate to shipping companies through their designated agents at the ports which is bad for business.

He continued;

” THis is not done in our neibouring country Lome and Nigeria but with Ghana a container’s rate can cost over 24,000 cedis. This does no make any sense.

So we will have discussions with the right bodies to reduce taxes drasticaally so that people in Abossey Ookai are happy”.

Mahama also hinted that he will be introducing some companies who will work collectively with banks in the country to help ease of access for importers. They will also offer loans to spare parts importers to help them clear their good off the terminals.

He added that more arrangements  are being developed by his party, the NDC. for a better and Ghana.
