Oheneba Nana Asiedu, the host of the Wontumi TV/FM show, has detailed the circumstances surrounding the passing of the late Dr. John Kumah, Deputy Finance Minister.
Oheneba asserted that the late minister, who was also an Ejisu Member of Parliament, had been poisoned by guinea pig flesh (Akonfem) during a segment on Wontumi FM.
Asiedu said that on October 22, while staying at the same hotel in Tamale, Northern Region, the late legislator and Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), were fed the suspected poisoned meat.
He remembers that the two politicians came to Tamale to lend support to Dr. Bawumia, the NPP’s current presidential contender.
According to Asiedu, Chairman Wontumi and Dr. John Kumah had a very unpleasant stomach ache after enjoying the guinea fowl meat.
The host said that Chairman Wontumi was later treated by the medical staff of Dr. Bawumia, which comprised two female nurses and a senior physician. He said the physician said Chairman Wontumi needed to be treated for “food poisoning” due to his declining health. According to Asiedu, Dr. John Kumah turned down medical care because the late politician thought he didn’t need it.
Why would you do this to another person for the sake of power? They are killing themselves because of their running mate.

According to Nana Oheneba said:
“Myself [Oheneba Nana Asiedu], Chairman Wontumi, and one of Chairman Wontumi’s boys, Kwaku Marfo, traveled to Tamale to support Dr Bawumia’s campaign. The late Dr John Kumah later joined us in Tamale from Accra. When we first arrived, we switched hotel rooms for security reasons.”
”After our campaign on October 22, we planned to go to Walewale in the North East Region, but we returned to Tamale due to the day’s prolonged campaign activities. Our hotel arrangements became disorganized because we never intended to stay in Tamale. Hence, I had to sleep in the same hotel in Tamale as Marfo, while Wontumi and Kumah stayed in a different hotel in the same region,” he recounted.
”I woke up around 3 am the next day after October 22 to several missed calls from Chairman Wontumi. He had tried to reach me from 1 am. I went to his hotel room and noticed he had vomited the meal he had eaten the previous night. ”John Kumah, on the other hand, told me he had the same experience but it was less severe than Chairman Wontumi.”
