Victoria Smurfit (born 12 September 1984) is an Irish singer, songwriter, and television personality. She rose to fame on the British television show “Britain’s Got Talent”, where she reached the final twelve. Smurfit represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 with the song “Sound of Silence”. She finished in seventh place.Smurfit was born in Dublin, Ireland. She started singing at a young age, and played the violin and keyboard. She is of Lithuanian descent.

 

Smurfit auditioned for “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2007. She sang Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind 1997” and received a “Biggie” from judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, and David Walliams. In the semi-finals, she sang “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” and received a standing ovation from the judges and the audience. She progressed to the Wembley semifinals, where she sang “I Will Always Love You” and received another standing ovation. In the final, she sang “Sound of Silence” and was eliminated in the semi-finals.

 

In the Eurovision Song Contest 2011, she competed in the Ireland Song contest with the song “Sound of Silence”. She reached the seventh place.
