Onaapo hitmaker, David Aja, has said his song will break the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Board’s protocol to be the first political song to be nominated and to win the most popular song of the year category.

Political songs do not make it for nominations at the Vodafone GhanaMusic Awards and will be difficult to get a political song nominated for the category of most popular song.

But speaking to Accra-based pulse.com.gh, Onaapo hitmaker, although aware of the fact that the VGMA Board does not nominate political songs, David Aja disclosed that he is thinking about filing his song for the awards and is hopeful that his song will set the record of being the first political song to be nominated and to win an award at the VGMA.

Maybe my song will break the protocol, so that when you are doing a political song in the future you will do it decently so that you can win an award for it. So I am praying that they give me that award. It is an applause for all other musicians who is trying to do a political song for a party so that we can do something good and move together as Ghanaians.”

Asked whether he was optimistic he can win the most popular song of the year category with a ‘one touch victory, he said: “Ooo Yes, because I know my family in the NPP will be voting for me more because I can see they are loving me more. So please if you see that I have been nominated, just vote for me“.

Aja was very elated that his song has become a hit and has united Ghanaians after the elections but disclosed that he is dreaming about a new song for the NDC ahead of the 2020 elections but will be released when the party announces a candidate.

Onaapo, the official song for the John Dramani Mahama Campaign in the 2016 elections has become the toast of town as it has been featured in most places including churches.
