The 79th Venice International Film Festival, which runs from August 31 to September 10, has named American actress Julianne Moore as the head of the international jury.
She will be accompanied by the directors Mariano Cohn from Argentina, Leonardo Di Costanzo from Italy, Audrey Diwan from France, who won the 2021 Golden Lion, Leila Hatami from Iran, Kazuo Ishiguro from Japan and the UK, and Rodrigo Sorogoyen from Spain.
The jury bestows the “Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best New Young Actor or Actress,” the “Golden Lion for Best Film,” the “Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize,” the “Silver Lion for Best Director,” the Volpi Cups for Best Actress and Best Actor, the “Special Jury Prize,” and the “Award for Best Screenplay.”
Moore has a history of accomplishments in Venice, having received the Franca Sozzani Award for Suburbicon in 2017 and the Volpi Cup Best Actress Award for her role in Far From Heaven in 2002.
Last year, Cohn attended Venice with the film Official Competition, which he co-directed with Gastón Duprat and starred Penélope Cruz, Antonio Banderas, and Oscar Martnez.
Italian director Di Costanzo exhibited his first film, The Interval, in the Horizons sidebar at Venice in 2012, and in 2021, The Inner Cage made its world premiere there outside of competition.
