Sir George Ivan Morrison OBE, better known by his stage name Van Morrison, was born on August 31, 1945, in Northern Ireland. His recording career has spanned seven decades. He has two Grammy victories.
He participated in various Irish showbands as an adolescent in the late 1950s, playing a range of instruments including guitar, harmonica, keyboards, and saxophone while performing covers of the time’s top singles.
Morrison, better known to his followers as “Van the Man,” became well-known in the middle of the 1960s as the main vocalist of the Northern Irish R&B and rock group Them. He co-wrote the iconic “Gloria” by the garage band Them.
