On March 24, 1986, dancer Valentin Aleksandrovich Chmerkovskiy was born in Odessa, Ukraine. What made him most renowned was his involvement in the American version of Dancing with the Stars, which he twice won.
Aleksandr “Sasha” Chmerkovskiy and Larisa Chmerkovskaya are the parents of Chmerkovskiy. His older brother Maksim Chmerkovskiy, a professional dancer who competes on Dancing with the Stars, was born in 1980. His mother is a Christian, but his father is Jewish.
On February 10, 2006, Chmerkovskiy made his acting debut as a pupil of his brother in Week 6 of Season 2 of the show. The students were Boris Leokumovich, Nicole Volynets, Valentin and Valeriya Kozharinova, Michelle Glazarov, and Onik. Each ensemble had two performances.
Chmerkovskiy has won the Junior and Youth World Latin Dance Championships twice, as well as the U.S. National Latin Dance Championship 14 times. Chmerkovskiy appeared in the season 10 results show on April 6, 2010. He performed a country western-themed dance alongside his brother Maksim, Edyta Liwiska, and Snejana Petrova.
On the season 11 results show on October 5, 2010, he faced off against Mark Ballas in a song and dance competition. During her performance, Val played the violin and danced with Lacey Schwimmer to “Toxic” by Britney Spears.
