An Uber driver in Ohio was tragically murdered by an 81-year-old man who believed she was part of a scam.

Loletha Hall, 61, was shot multiple times by William Brock outside his South Charleston home last month, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident unfolded when a scammer contacted Mr. Brock, demanded thousands of dollars, and threatened to harm his nephew.

In a panic, Mr. Brock pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder after the fatal shooting of Ms. Hall.

Authorities revealed that the scammer also sent Ms. Hall to Mr. Brock’s house under false pretenses to pick up a package, unaware of the dangerous situation she was walking into.

Dashcam footage released by the police captured the tense confrontation between Mr. Brock and Ms. Hall, with Mr. Brock brandishing a gun to prevent her from leaving. The investigation further revealed that an unidentified man had called Mr. Brock, demanding a large sum of money for his nephew’s release and threatening to harm him if the ransom was not paid.

The situation escalated when Mr. Brock allegedly refused to let Ms. Hall leave, leading to a confrontation that ended tragically with Ms. Hall being shot multiple times as she tried to flee in her car.

Despite Mr. Brock’s 911 call and claims of self-defense, Ms. Hall succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The sheriff’s office is actively searching for the scammers involved in the deceitful plot that ultimately cost Ms. Hall her life.

In response to the incident, Uber has banned the account linked to the hiring of Ms. Hall, expressing deep sorrow and committing to support the ongoing investigation.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning to residents, especially older individuals, to be cautious of unexpected solicitations for cash from supposed law enforcement agencies or courts, emphasizing the importance of verifying the legitimacy of such communications.
