An investigation into the tragic death of ice hockey star Adam Johnson has been given an update by the police. The Nottingham Panthers player, 29, lost his life in a collision with rival Matt Petgrave during a game in October.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter the following month and has now been re-bailed until May 14, 2024. The incident occurred during a game between the Sheffield Steelers and Nottingham Panthers at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena.

Adam Johnson was fatally injured and later pronounced dead in hospital due to a neck injury. Video clips show the moment Petgrave’s leg was sent into the air after being knocked off-balance just before the tragic accident. Johnson received emergency treatment on the ice and was shielded by players before being taken to the hospital.

An inquest into his death has been adjourned until January 26, 2024, while the investigation continues. Johnson was engaged to his partner, Ryan Wolfe, who took to Instagram to pay tribute to her “sweet angel.” Floral tributes have been left for Johnson at the Motorpoint Arena as fans and loved ones continue to mourn his loss.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
